Creative DIY Minnesota Barn Wedding | Mason & Amanda

Creative DIY Minnesota Barn Wedding
Mason & Amanda

Mason & Amanda were married on Saturday, March 25th at Rustic Oaks in Moorhead, MN! Amanda’s parents, Dave & Anne, own and operate this wedding venue and have now had the privilege of watching all three of their children get married there. Mason & Amanda had one of the most original and sweet wedding ceremonies I have ever witnessed. The entire day was full of peace and warmth. Mason, who Amanda would describe as “wildly creative” put so much love into various details of the wedding day — from handcrafted ties to tea cups. Amanda is very talented herself and made her own felt floral bouquet!  All of the beautiful shawls you will see throughout the photos were hand knit by Amanda’s mom.  Amanda’s dress was remade from her mother’s wedding gown and pieces of her grandmother’s veil. Isn’t that amazing?! I am still in awe.  As you look through these images, I hope that you sense the feelings of family and love that I felt while photographing this creative DIY Minnesota barn wedding.

The simplicity of this wide portrait below makes it one of my favorites from the day!
Amanda’s ring is a sage leaf, and Mason’s ring is made of teak wood and jade.

Before their traditional ceremony, they had a Chinese tea ceremony in the lower level of the Dromstead Inn.  Amanda changed into a red dress for this part of the day. Stunning!
During this ceremony the couple serves tea to older relatives and thanks them for the part they had in raising them. Mason’s mom spoke the most beautiful, love-filled words over Mason & Amanda.

So much joy!
This little one couldn’t stop waving at her grandma and great-grandma!
One of my favorite parts of the ceremony was when five of Mason & Amanda’s friends opened and read fortune cookies. It was spontaneous, light-hearted and everyone had a good laugh when one of the fortunes read, “Someone is attracted to you. Keep your eyes open!”
Sing-a-long!
Married!
Life sized scrabble board.
During the ceremony, the officiant gave all the guests a chance to write a word of blessing on a note card. These words were read aloud during the ceremony and as soon as I heard them, I knew I wanted to create a portrait with the cards. Many blessings to you, Mason & Amanda! It was a privilege to capture your beautiful wedding day and I wish you ALL the best in your lives together!
